Lubricant Review Institute

What is the history of the Lubricant Review Institute?

1998 - SAE transferred the administration of the Lubricant Review Institute to the Performance Review Institute (PRI) and a Qualified Product List was developed.

1977 - US Army contracted SAE to review and make recommendations on candidate products based on military performance specifications. SAE created the Lubricant Review Institute, which establishes a Gear Lubricant & Engine Lubricant Review Committee. US Army retained responsibility for approving and qualifying products to its specifications.

1943 – 1977 - US Army qualified lubricants to its specifications, partly based on recommendations from an advisory body that it sponsored.

PD4000 - Gear Lubricant Review Program is the procedure the Review Committee follows in its evaluation of the candidate lubricant against the requireiments of the SAE J2360 Standard.
